The Maranta Prayer Plant earned its name due to its unique leaf movements, which fold upward, resembling hands in prayer. During the day they fold down to soak in as much light as possible, and close up at night or in low light conditions. The prayer plant family has a bit of a reputation for being tricky, but these guys are the easiest of the bunch!
Water: Keep the soil consistently moist/damp, but not waterlogged. The plant will droop and curl up its leaves when not receiving enough water. Use a chunky substrate to prevent root rot from the consistent moisture.
Light: Thrives in bright (indirect) or gentle morning sunlight, although it can adapt to lower light conditions, this can cause the leaves to grow in smaller and with less color. Protect from hot direct afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch.
Considerations: Shield from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes, as Maranta prefer warm and stable conditions. In cold conditions they may drop leaves and go into dormancy, but can regrow from their rhizomes. Regularly rotate the plant to ensure even growth and prevent leggy growth.
